Taqueria Luna
About This Spot
Stepping up to Taqueria Luna feels like arriving at a trusted little corner of Southeast Portland—a casual, unpretentious spot where the hum of lively conversations and the scent of fresh, fire-roasted ingredients mix with the gentle clatter of dishes. It’s a relaxed pause in the day, the kind of place where pace slows just enough to savor the simple joy of good company and comforting flavors.
Though nestled within a modest food cart complex, the atmosphere here carries warmth and a distinctly familiar rhythm. Outdoor seating invites friendly exchanges beneath the open sky, while limited indoor space offers a quieter nook for those who prefer a moment out of the bustle. There’s a genuine sense of community that feels woven into the air—welcoming, inclusive, and a bit like sharing a meal at a neighbor’s kitchen table.
The menu at Taqueria Luna is rooted in a devotion to classic Mexican street food with a fresh, thoughtful approach. Each taco, burrito, and huarache carries the feel of something handcrafted—ingredients thoughtfully balanced, flavors that whisper of tradition and careful preparation rather than shortcuts. Even longtime Mexican food lovers find familiar favorites that resonate deeply, while those newer to authentic tacos find themselves smiling at every bite.
Vegan diners are quietly delighted here too. It’s clear that plant-based options are treated with as much care as anything else, offering layers of flavor and a satisfying heartiness that doesn’t rely on heavy additions. The green salsa, bright and lively, tends to steal the scene, inviting one to savor just a little more with each visit.
What makes Taqueria Luna linger in memory isn’t just the food—it’s the feeling of being recognized, the subtle nod of a well-done meal shared with those who clearly care about what’s on the plate and who is at it. It’s a neighborhood place that welcomes both newcomers and regulars, offering more than sustenance: a quiet invitation to slow down, enjoy, and return.

The best al pastor burrito I’ve had so far in PDX. Great prices, service, and menu options. Small food cart complex with mostly outdoor seating, but some limited indoor seating available. I will return as often as I can!

As a Salvadorian born and raised in LA, I have to say this place is legit. Great tasting food, I've had the burritos, tortas and tacos. All are delicious due to the ingredients used, not greasy yet so tasty!! This place is a must

Vegan burrito is perfection. The beans are so darn savory that I think about them after the last bite. Peppers and onions are fire roasted and add so much flavor. Nice ratio of rice with beans and greens. I really don’t think I’ve had a better burrito and I lived in Mexico for a year. The price is right and the family is super friendly. Pro tip—burrito is best with the green salsa. Get two as they are small.

I've lived in the States for a while but I've never tried real tacos. Today after open skate at Oaks Park my partner and I decided to have dinner here. Oh my gosh! I cannot recommend it enough! Everything was fresh and well seasoned. I can't wait to eat here again!!

Taqueria Luna is easily my favorite spot in SE Portland when I’m craving a burrito. My wife and I are both vegan, and while most of their menu is standard non-vegan Mexican, their veggie burrito is truly exceptional. It’s hands down the best we’ve ever had—flavorful, full of great beans and rice and veggies,, and always prepared exactly the way we order it — vegano, so no cheese, no sour cream. Never had an issue with accidental cheese, which is more than I can say for any other place I order. Perfect attention to detail. The family who runs the cart is always kind, welcoming, and makes the whole ordering experience smooth. If it were up to me, I’d eat here nearly every day. The only downside is that the hours can be unpredictable—like most food carts, they sometimes need to close due to weather, family matters, or just the realities of running a small operation. My advice: call ahead to make sure they’re open before heading over. Even with that caveat, Taqueria Luna will always be my first choice when I want a burrito.

We ordered the fish taco plate, carnitas taco plate, and guacamole with chips. Friendly people and good tacos. I forgot to ask if they fried the fish in the tacos. That was my mistake. They are fried. I’m gluten-free.

I had the carnitas burrito suizo, which was aromatic and pretty tasty. Spicy hot sauce was decent, too
